Babies & Children – Peadiatric Osteopathy
Osteopaths treat children from birth through to adolescence. Infants can have stresses inflicted on their bodies from pre-birth posture inside the womb as well as the stress of the birth process. As an infant is developing at such a quick rate, any restrictions can largely impact the behavior as well as the development of a child. It is thought some adult ailments stem from unresolved restrictions present from birth.
Osteopaths use gentle, non-invasive and often indirect techniques in combination with a detailed case history in the treatment of children. Paediatric Osteopaths have a highly developed sense of touch which they use this to find and treat restrictions in a child’s body.
Common Paediatric presentations include:
- Feeding issues
- Sleeping issues
- Plagiocephaly (uneven headshape)
- Neck restriction (A preference for the baby to turn its head one way more than the other)
- Colic and reflux
And in older children:
- Behavioural issues
- Postural and developmental issues
- Uneven walking gait
- Scoliosis (a curved spine)
